Why “Mad Cow”? Where did the name come from?

The name “Mad Cow” is a combination of a couple of things. Mostly, I just love cows. Going to college in West Virginia introduced me to a more rural lifestyle. My friend Jim and I spent countless hours “up on the farm” where his family rented their land to a local farmer to raise his cattle. I love how serene cows are and have always been a bit jealous of their apparent carefree attitude. The first time I saw a cartoon image of a “mad” cow, I was struck. This image has stuck with me ever since.

Why rebrand now? What motivated you to do it?

There are two main reasons for the rebrand. Primarily, I have always wanted to use this as a company name, but feared not seeming “professional” enough. I think we all take ourselves a little too seriously, especially when it comes to starting a business. The second reason is the result of a shift in our company’s services over the years. While we started out doing SEO, social media and websites, the focus has moved to being an entirely website development shop. My training and experience combined with the love of building websites has pushed me in this direction. I also recognize that SEO and social media are constant. I have found partners in those industries that keep up with those changes and can offer my clients a far superior product.

What is staying the same and what is changing with the business?

Overall, there is no real change to how you are currently doing business with us. We still love phone calls and emails for updates and re-designs for your web presence. There is no task too small or large. E-commerce sites continue to be a strong suit for us and we build almost exclusively on the WordPress platform. We are also working on a couple of web apps that create an efficient user experience for your customers through their mobile devices.

Why do you love cows so much?

That’s a tough question to answer. It’s like asking “Why do you love dark chocolate?” As I noted above, I spent lots of time on the farm and just developed an affinity for those peaceful creatures. Since then I have always loved everything “cows”. I do love a good steak and am looking forward to adding some cow-print furniture and art to my home. I guess a better question is: Who doesn’t love cows!?

Where did you get the logo?

I work with some amazing people. One of those is John Patzman from 1000 Robots Design. They are a graphic design team just down the road in Denver and literally everything they do is simply gorgeous. I gave John the old clipart I stumbled on about a decade ago and he took that and ran with it. I can’t recommend them enough!

I would also be remiss if I didn’t give props to Rebecca from Gilchek Creative. Rebecca has a great eye for design and a gifted mind for branding and marketing. The two of them combined helped me get the Mad Cow rebrand off the ground!
